READING ALL THE INFORMATION IS CRITICAL PRIOR TO SUBMITTING FOR THIS PROJECT.
There are 3 dramatic stories that take place in 3 different time periods (1951, 1973 and 2011) in one house on 11 Oak Drive. It's an unusual script with a common denominator but I can not reveal what makes it so. The actors may pick up on the unique element but I do not want to give it away. The full script is not available however the material given for each particular role will be enough for the audition purposes. Scheduled auditions will begin on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Premier Actor's Network located at the Porter Sanford Theatre. 3181 Rainbow Dr. Decatur, GA 30034. The theatre is conveniently located off the 20 freeway and there is plenty of free parking. Only actors who have scheduled appointment times will be allowed to audition. The producers want all those auditioning to dress in the spirit, essence or style of the time period in which their story takes place. This is required, so please plan ahead. If you are asked to upload an audition, please do the same.
Abner - African American or Caucasian, late 20's - early 30's. His life takes place in 1951 (story #1), so actors submitted must have a classic 1950's look. He is a handsome man that we discovered has murdered someone. There must be a sense of danger about him. He is cold, stubborn, set in his ways but he can be softened by his woman Priscilla. * For the audition, you must prepare a 3 minute monologue based on the scenes from the script. A hard copy of the monologue does not have to be produced, but it must be performed for the audition. You may improvise but you must understand your character enough to do so. This is all your audition will consist of so you must be prepared. The monologue should be about he and Priscilla, the murder and or the opening scene.
Priscilla - African American or Caucasian, late 20's to early 30's. Her life takes place in 1951 (story #1), so actresses submitted must have a classic 1950's look. She is beautiful and petite. She hides a lot under the surface. She has suppressed her feelings of anger and sadness so much that when they do come out she explodes. Actresses submitted must be comfortable wearing a bra and underwear on camera in a scene. She loves Abner, has been seeing him for sometime but she is married to a photographer. For the audition, you must write a 3 minute monologue based on the scenes from the script. A hard copy of the monologue does not have to be produced, but it must be performed for the audition. You may improvise but you must understand your character enough to do so. Those auditioning for Priscilla will also do the sides from the script that will be provided.
Photographer - African American or Caucasian, 30's. His life takes place in 1951 (story #1), so actors submitted must have a classic 1950's look. He is skinny, not very attractive, has nervous energy . . . he is the opposite of Abner. Confronting his wife about her adultery is the bravest thing he's ever done. Priscilla is more dominant than him. The photographer must have character and personality.
Diego - Cuban or French, late 20's early 30's. His life takes place in 1973 (story #2), so actors submitted must have the look of the early 70's. He is a writer, smokes cigarettes rugged and handsome, he may only shower a couple of times per week. He is a loner and doesn't let people into his world. His backstory is that he stumbled upon writing, probably got a great deal and now he has the pressure to write another great book. He is rather out of shape and is unshaven. Those submitted MUST be able to speak Spanish or French fluently. For the audition you must create a monologue about your character having writers block, based on the script. Feel free to incorporate Spanish or French in your monologue. We want to see you have the inner battles about having writers block without you actually saying it. Imagine Diego sitting at an old school typewriter with tons of crumpled paper around him, smoking and frustrated.
Clark - Open ethnicity, late teens to mid 20's. His life takes place in 1973 (story #2), so actors submitted must have the look of the early 70's. He is a bicyclist that is a character in Diego's book that he's trying to write. Clark comes "alive" and shows up at Diego's door because Diego can not figure out what to do with him or where he wants the story to go. He is handsome but geeky, tall, lanky and slightly nerdy, an extremely smart man and is bookish. Think Jesse Eisenberg from The Social Network. For the audition you will do some of the dialogue from the script and a monologue that will be prepared for you.
Clark's Woman - African American, late teens to mid 20's. Her life takes place in 1973 (story #2), so actor submitted must have the look of the early 70's. She is a cute girl with big hair (this look can be created), braids, locks . . . she must have a natural and distinctive look of the 1970's. She only exists in Clark's world. Create a monologue based on the material from the script.
Janelle - African American, 12 going on 13. Her life takes place in 2011 (story #3). She looks innocent but this young girl is pregnant, and by looking at her you would never think that she'd find herself in this predicament. She is actually a sweet girl, she's not fast but has wound up in this situation out of recklessness curiosity and a lack of parental supervision. For the audition you will prepare the sides from the script. The scene is with her mother.
Gina - African American, 28 or 29 years old. Her life takes place in 2011 (story #3). She was 16 or 17 when she had Janelle. She is is very stern but is also extremely close to her daughter . . . more like an older sister. They've had good times together but the revelation that her baby is pregnant changes their relationship.
