Brewton-Parker College Welcomes Wrestling
Spring 2012 will bring a new and exciting sport to Brewton-ParkerCollege. With the support of Team Georgia USA Wrestling and the
Wrestling Hall of Fame sponsors, the BPC athletic program will now
offer wrestling. Everyone is anticipating the start of this new sport
in hopes that it will enhance the department, college, and strengthen
the bonds within the community. Anthony Flatt , Chairman of Team
Georgia Wrestling, presented the school with a $10,000 check to help
start the program. Flatt says his organization has already helped to
start programs at Shorter and Truett-McConnel Colleges and their
mission is to grow wrestling at all levels, and they have been missing
it at the college level. School President Dr. Mike Simoneaux says he
is excited about wresting coming to the school. He says he was
astounded at the depth of support in the state of Georgia for
wrestling at the college level.
BPC Athletic Director Sheila Simmons said they had been looking at
ways to expand the athletics at BPC, and because of the support in the
area, wrestling was a no brainer. Simmons says that recruiting of
wrestling athletes would start right away. With the search already
underway to hire a new wrestling coach, the school can expect a storm
of opportunities as students prepare to suit up and wrestle their way
through tournaments, both at the state and national level.
