one of Ric Flair's first matches. A tale of ying and yang
Ric Flair is probably one of the best pro wrestlers of all time, but in 1974 he was an unknown rookie and in one of his first matches he had to face 1972 Olympian Chris Taylor who is one of the largest heavyweight amateurs ever(420lbs, this was before a HWT class weight limit). Chris only lost 2 matches in college and is 1 of only 2 men to pin all of his opponents from a round of 32 to win a NCAA title. In short, in pro wrestling Chris "could" do whatever he wanted if he chose, especially with his amateur credentials and that he stood 6'6 and weighed 450lbs as a pro.
Here is an international amateur bout Chris vs. a Korea Wrester.
Unfortunately Chris got alot of fame from the throw heard around the world:
Chris was being groomed as the future of pro wrestling. He could perform standing somersaults with grace and ease that no one of his size every had to that date in time. Unfortunatly Chris had to retire due to health complications in 1977. He died in 1979.
